Does downtown Stratford have a good supply of condo buildings? Well to be honest, not really. Infill development sites to build on are also becoming increasingly difficult to find and the city hall has imposed height restrictions. In a way, that’s a good thing.

If we look at the neighbourhood around the “Thirty-Six Front” condo building near the “Tom Patterson Theatre” we will find that 66% of the population still live in single family houses and 45% of these houses are sixty years of age and older. In this area 24% of the population live in apartment buildings.

A similar profiling exists for the 154 Downie Street condo building on one of the main streets in town about ten blocks away. Around this building 55% of the population live in single family homes and 60% of these houses are sixty years of age and older. In this area 36% of the population live in apartment buildings.

So what does all of this really mean? Well many new people coming to this city often do so with the intentions of finding a condo to purchase, however, end up being instead the proud owners of a century home with the often used expression of having good bones.
